Dubai to host global IT meet in May

Dubai: Over 800 local and international delegates are expected to participate in the World Customs Organisation (WCO) IT Conference and Exhibition, which will be hosted by Dubai from May14-16.

“The conference aims to enhance joint coordination among international border control and security agencies,” said Juma Al Ghaith, executive director of Customs Development Division at Dubai Customs.

He announced the meet during the Gitex event.

He said the 179 member states in WCO will give weightage to the Emirate’s bid to host the much prized World Expo 2020.

An official from the WCO’s office of the secretary general, Greg Pilkington, said the Dubai Customs’ conference will be held under the title: “Effective Solutions for Coordinated Border Management.”

Started in 2002, the WCO conference is rotated in different global regions. The last event was held in Estonia and a year before it was hosted in Seattle, USA.

“It will be the first time that it will be hosted in the Middle East and we have been impressed with what we have seen so far, especially the coordination of different government agencies,” said Pilkington.
