A friend asked me the question some time ago: "what about United Arab Emirates in the Expos? Since when and how many participations?"
It's a fact that the United Arab Emirates, young federal state was created in 1971, only 41 years ago ... it's perfectly normal that this story related to Expos is also recent.
Since the Expo '70 in Osaka until 2012 Yeosu, there can be 15 different Expos ... regarding the participation of the Emirates, the first one was in Japan, Osaka, in 1970, thanks to the presence of the pavilion of Abu Dhabi, federal capital of the country, composed by seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm al Qaiwain.
This first participation will be followed by five others with the United Arab Emirates: Seville in 1992, in Hanover in 2000 in Zaragoza in 2008, Shanghai in 2010 and Yeosu in 2012.
There are 6 entries since the creation of the UAE 41 years ago, but since Expo '70, if we take it into account all interests of countries that are parties of the Arab world, there is a total of 80 entries, which is far from negligible in just four decades.
Not to mention the Arab countries involved since the first expos: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, etc ...
Back on this first participation in Japan, of the Abu Dhabi pavilion :
Abu Dhabi pavilion is a reconstruction of simple fortresses but impressive that coast in the ancient times. These fortresses served as residence or as gathering places of worship for the sheikhs or tribal leaders. Although built with simplicity, some survived the combined assault of man and nature.
They are still silent but eloquent witnesses of the Arab tenacity.
The pavilion is distinguished by its minarets, one round and one square, and includes exhibition halls and cinema.
The country and its people are presented with films and objects presented in alcoves around the main minaret. Under the theme "Abu Dhabi, Past, Present and Future", this pavilion offers a broad overview of the activities and achievements of the small emirate.
The exhibition gives an idea of the enormous amount of work and considerable progress made since the beginning of the reign of His Highness, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nehiyan and how oil revenues are used for the well-being of the people.
Abu Dhabi's past, the role of the sea and pearl fishing in the lives of people is treated with picturesque paintings.
Highlight of the exhibition: a replica of a romantic scene of the "Thousand and One Nights" to entertain visitors to the manner of the Arabs in the past centuries.
The pavilion of Abu Dhabi was at the center of the Expo '70 in Osaka, besire the artificial lake near Avenue Bridge Senri.
