Solar roadways, AirCarbon, Expo 2016 Antalya Turkey, UN Sustainable Development Goals...
Solar roadways – combining sustainability and mobility. What other technologies could combine #Expo2020’s subthemes?
What comes to your mind when you think of the Expo 2020 site? How could you portray our subthemes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability - physically? Let us know your thoughts below
Produced from dairy farm waste, AirCarbon is a sustainable alternative to oil-based plastics. All the benefits, minus the harm. Can you think of other technologies doing the same?
The young will inherit our world. That’s why the 2016 horticultural Expo in Antalya has adopted the theme "Cultivating a Green Life for Future Generations”, focusing on youth, sustainability, and the environment.
The #Expo2020 agenda is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. #Dubai will be the meeting point for the world to work together towards a brighter future !

Happy National Day UAE !!!
Celebrating the UAE's 44th National Day...
The United Arab Emirates was formed on December 2, 1971, when the UK's treaty expired and the separate sheikdoms decided to form a Union. At first the UAE was a federation of six emirates- Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ajman. The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah was added a year later to the UAE. To celebrate the UAE’s 44th National Day, the Government of Dubai has planned a number of activities throughout the week.

| His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum |
Members of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee led by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum travelled to Paris for the historic announcement, which marks the start of the next chapter in Dubai’s journey to 2020 and a new phase of increased activity.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed noted: “For two years we have worked tirelessly to plan and prepare for a truly exceptional World Expo in 2020. Today, the member nations of the BIE have officially endorsed these plans.”

| Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and Board Representative of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee and Director General, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020. |
His Highness went on to make clear the commitment to all future visitors and participants: “There is no time to rest. Now is the time for us to translate our vision into reality, as we deliver an Expo that will inspire the world to come together and begin to solve some of our most pressing global challenges.”
The Expo 2020 Registration Document, which was officially submitted to the BIE for review in July, was the result of comprehensive research and rigorous planning, and provided detailed information about the mega-event, including the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, the site Master Plan, participant and visitor engagement strategies, communications and marketing, business operations, sustainability and the post-event legacy.
To mark Dubai’s formal appointment, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed was presented with the official BIE flag by the governing body’s President, His Excellency Mr. Nagy. Also in attendance were His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness the Ruler’s Court of Dubai, CEO of Investment Corporation of Dubai and Vice Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee; Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and Director-General of Bureau Dubai Expo 2020; His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of ADNEC; His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Major General Khamis Mutar Al Muzainah, Chief Commander of Dubai Police; His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority; His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director-General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre; and His Excellency Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation. The members of the Higher Committee were joined by a delegation of UAE business people, who have been strong partners of Expo during the journey to becoming Host City. Their presence at the BIE ceremony demonstrated their intent to continue to support the effort to deliver the Expo, now that this major milestone has been passed.
Mr. Loscertales, the BIE Secretary-General, said, “As the first World Expo to take place in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, we look forward to what we believe will be a meaningful moment in history, not only for this young nation and the BIE, but also for the wider region and indeed, the world. Dubai has presented a compelling vision, and detailed plans to ensure its realisation. We will continue to support and work alongside the Expo 2020 team over the next five years as these ideas are turned into reality.”
In moving from the planning to delivery phase, activity will increase to include formal engagement with international participants, including nations, corporations, multilateral organisations, NGOs and academic institutions. This next phase will also see the continuation and extension of existing stakeholder initiatives, both domestic and international, including the current series of BusinessConnect workshops, the annual Youth Connect event, and ongoing dialogue with young entrepreneurs, regional SMEs and global thought leaders.
Opening its gates to the world on 20 October 2020, Expo 2020 Dubai will be the most international and inclusive event in World Expo history, welcoming more than 25 million visits and over 200 participants over its six months duration. The vast majority of visitors (some 70%) are expected to come from overseas.

Expo 2020 Dubai unveils YouthConnect...
Youth to Participate in an “Engaging, Empowering and Entertaining Event”
Dubai, UAE. 5 October 2015: Expo 2020 Dubai unveils YouthConnect, the first in a long-lasting and wide ranging series highly interactive forums designed by youth for youth. The inaugural event will take place on Saturday, November 14th 2015.
This first interactive, full-day forum, part of a far wider programme to talk to the younger members of society, is open to all UAE residents (between the ages of 18-25). It will be a genuinely hands-on and immersive experience, providing participants with access to inspirational and keynote speakers chosen from the broadest range of professions; as well as, high achievers and leading organisations from widely different backgrounds. Attendees will be introduced to a host of ‘hands-on’ participatory workshops, engaging exhibits, and areas for in-depth discussions and ‘edutainment’. Subjects covered by this year’s YouthConnect will include Business and Leadership; Start-ups and Entrepreneurship; Science and Engineering; Technology, Coding and Gaming; Arts and Culture; Innovation; Health and Lifestyle; and, of course, Employability.
“From our earliest days conceiving Expo”, says Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and Director General of the Bureau Dubai Expo 2020 “we were determined to put our youth at the heart of our plans. It is these young men and women who will be representing and leading our nation in the years to come. So it is important that they contribute to these events and decide what they want to see and do on the day.”
YouthConnect has been planned in coordination with people from across the target age group. Furthermore, as their peers sign up for the event, they will be asked to design their own individual experience. Attendees will be able to select how they want to spend their time: joining specific workshops, listening and talking with global thought leaders, taking part in activities all designed to provide guests with a range of hands on experiences that offer the opportunity to understand what working in a specific field might be like. They can dip in and out of events trying as many as possible to get a true and practical flavour of what’s on offer. The event ends with night time activities featuring great food and a range of live entertainment.
“Whilst this first YouthConnect event is sure to be highly enjoyable and interactive, it has a genuinely important purpose too. We know that we need to prepare our young for their professional lives and to ensure they are in the best possible shape to meet the challenges that lie ahead. In this event, as in all of the events to come, we are offering the chance to meet with and learn from others who have succeeded by self-belief and hard work.” said Her Excellency. “As our Expo theme proclaims to the world, we want to Connect Minds and Create the Future, and what better minds to connect with than the young?”
To be a part of YouthConnect, visit www.youthconnect.expo2020dubai.ae or follow updates on the Expo 2020 Dubai Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, #YouthConnect. The annual forum has limited capacity so applicants are encouraged to register swiftly.

UAE pavilion... masterpiece at Expo 2015 Milano !!!
Theme ‘Food for Thought – Shaping and Sharing the Future’
The Concept
The UAE Pavilion explores the very real challenges that arise in feeding the planet, particularly in the interwoven topics of land, food, energy and water. It also highlights some of the innovative solutions that the UAE has developed in these areas. Solutions have been arrived at based on a local need but they have a very real global benefit since many parts of the world will be experiencing the same difficulties as the Emirates due to spiralling demand and the effects of climate change. By sharing knowledge and resources, the UAE is truly helping to shape the future.
Traditional culture and the values that it inspires, the warmth and hospitality of Emiratis, the conviviality of food and a media-rich immersive environment combine to provide an experience that will be fun, emotional, challenging and thought provoking. Our ultimate aim is not only to educate and engage but to inspire commitment to change.
Visitors can also find out about the UAE’s exciting plans to host the next World Expo in 2020, as well as interact with pioneering UAE companies, organisations and thought leaders through a series of permanent exhibitions, seminars and events.
The Design of the Pavilion
Designed by Foster + Partners, the striking form of the UAE Pavilion is created by a series of tall rippled walls. These impressive 12-metre structures evoke both the narrow self-shaded streets of the UAE’s historic settlements and the magnificent open sand dunes of its deserts. 3D scans of dune surfaces have informed the wall design to create an authentic texture. These sinuous, curving shapes guide visitors through a range of intriguing spaces and exciting, informative experiences.
Complementary landscaping based on native UAE species provides a welcoming green backdrop.
Engineered for the naturally cool weather of Milan and the sunny climes of the United Arab Emirates, the pavilion will be dismantled at the end of Expo Milano 2015 and reassembled in the UAE’s low-carbon Masdar City, reflecting the principles embodied in Masdar’s sustainability ethos.
