History - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Expo'70 Osaka - Japan

Saudi Arabia is modernizing rapidly, yet the process of modernization was in harmony with the traditions and teachings of the great religion of Islam.

The visitor to Saudi Arabia Pavilion should keep in mind that Islam is not only a religion, a relationship between man and God, but also a way of life, governing and regulating all aspects of human life.

The concept of "progress in harmony" was first presented in architectural design of the pavilion of Saudi Arabia. The Islamic arabesque design was a traditional style in an ultra-modern context.

As for the interior exhibition area, the pavillon of one floor was divided into two sections, the general showroom and religious room.

The general exhibition hall reflected the spirit of progress in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a progress that had taken place in a short time under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Faisal.

The area around the symbol zone, in the general exhibition hall, showing the progress made in the areas of social and physical infrastructure.

The symbol area was "Towards a better use of natural resources." In this section, the great efforts of the Kingdom to fully use its natural resources, the oil industry, petrochemical industry, mining and agricultural industries, were presented in a very attractive and colorful way.

The hallway leading to the dining religion and religion allowed room to familiarize the non-Muslim visitors to the religion of Islam. The universality of Islam, the religion of more than 600 million people worldwide, was presented through the screen of one of the main pillars of Islam, the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Impact of Expo 2020 Dubai on the wider region

This is the UAE’s opportunity to use this mega event platform to truly engage the global community and drive advancements and innovative solutions in the fields of opportunity, mobility and sustainability.

Running from 20 October 2020 through 10 April 2021, the Expo coincides with the country’s Golden Jubilee and will serve as a springboard to launch a progressive and sustainable vision for the coming decades.

A strong legacy will be realised, buoyed by accelerated infrastructure development, a detailed urban planning legacy and knowledge base development, and underpinned by a long-term strategic UAE national training and development programme.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the economic impact generated by the Expo between now and 2021 will be approximately US$19.6 billion – much of this value is expected to be retained within the region.

In the next six years, over 275,000 jobs are estimated to be created in and around the region to service the Expo, across sectors including tourism, aviation, construction and real estate, engineering and infrastructure, logistics and transportation, and hospitality and retail.

The World Expo builds on the UAE’s natural strength as a global business hub offering access to a market of nearly 2.9 billion people, and will open more doors to strong investment and partnership opportunities across the MEASA region.

Overall the positive halo effect of the Expo 2020 Dubai will leave behind a strong transformative social and economic legacy across the region.
